One of only four finished, signed and dated Le Bassin Aux Nymphéas canvases sold by Monet in his lifetime — part of the creative series behind the Grandes Décorations at the Musée de l'Orangerie. The comparable painting from the same 1919 Bernheim-Jeune sale achieved $80,379,592 at Christie's London in June 2008, at the time the highest auction price ever paid for a Monet. The present work carries an unbroken provenance chain from the artist's studio through documented institutional and private hands to a 2016 Christie's New York sale, and is offered privately off-market. Its rarity is compounded by the fact that a companion canvas (the left half of the original horizontal work) is on permanent loan to the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
